Award Winning Health Leaders

Both current and previous Man-Sask Health Ministry Directors were recently honoured for their work in the health field.

Glenda Nischuk – Current Man-Sask Health Ministry Director

Glenda Nischuk is a Holistic Nutritionist and professional health speaker and trainer. She was honored on October 22, 2017 with a Canada 150 Community Volunteer Award. The ceremony, presided over by Cathy Wagantall, MP for Yorkton-Melville, honored 35 community & business leaders in the year of Canada’s 150th birthday. Glenda was singled out for spending “thousands of volunteer hours yearly encouraging and coaching those who wish to discover the secrets of better living through a healthy diet and lifestyle.”

This follows her Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal she received in 2013. That award’s citation read: “Through your contributions to those around you, you have well reflected the values of caring of our monarch.  In so doing, you have helped keep Canada great.  As volunteer director of the local Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP) and nutritional consultant to hundreds, Mrs. Nischuk’s compassionate, practical and determined approach to caring for the whole person has brought about a healthier community.”

Dr. Carol Henry – Previous Man-Sask Health Ministry Director

Dr. Henry is an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Saskatchewan. Her work focuses on health promotion, nutrition and food security. During Fall Convocation 2017, she was awarded the J.W. George Ivany Internationalization Award. It is awarded for enhancing the university’s international impact and visibility while stimulating a global perspective in students.

Specifically, it was Dr. Henry’s collaborative work in nutrition-related research, teaching, and development projects at home and abroad in Africa and the Caribbean that brought her these accolades. “It is humbling,” says Dr. Henry. “I have always wanted to contribute to missions, especially finding ways to help those in need. My experiences in research and teaching at the U of S helps me to fulfil this mission.”
