The Sabbath School Community project goal for the year 2013 was realized, on Saturday, October 12. A cheque in the amount of $6,000 was presented to Kristin Scarfone, a representative of the Trillium Health Partners Foundation (Credit Valley Hospital). This money is earmarked for a new stretcher for the Credit Valley Hospital’s cancer department.
The church had two fundraising initiatives, a penny drive “Pennies from Heaven”, which started last spring and ran throughout the entire project and a Walk!Run!Ride event held in July of this year.
Almost half of the money raised, was from the penny drive. This only shows that we should never underestimate the value of a penny.
The Walk!Run!Ride 5K event was held on July 7, 2013. The participants collected sponsors from their co-workers, friends, church members and neighbors.
On the day of the event, the participants met at 6:30 a.m. at Mississauga Church, located at 2250 Credit Valley Road. There was a morning devotion, and light refreshments were served. The Walk!Run!Ride! route took the participants around the Credit Valley Hospital and then along the event path, and back to the church, where they started. Breakfast was served to the participants.
What better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than to be able to positively impact our community in such a tangible way. It is the church’s plan to maintain this connection with the hospital and the community. The Church is truly striving to live up to its name – Mississauga Seventh-day-Adventist community Church.
